I have a nice new SV5470 (like the one just reviewed in Guitarist) and though it is a lovely guitar to behold it has a slight problem. Occationally bending or trem use makes a high-pitch "plinking" noise from the strings.
My guess it is a string moving through the nut but I thought I'd pitch it to you guys as there may be a nice easy solution to stop it happening (short of not bending or using the trem!). Any thoughts gratefully received. Last edited by grumbleweed : 06-02-2008 at 07:36 PM. Reason: Spelling boo-boo |

You could either spend pounds buying some sort of nut lube product, or do it for pennies with a pencil and draw in the nut slots when you change strings. The "lead" is made of graphite and should stop your strings sticking. I draw in my nut slots when I change the strings.

last weekend i graphited up my epi sg which had unbearabley crap tuning, stuck a set of 10's on it and it's awesome now, I used one of those mechanical pencils and just snapped a length of lead off, I found the pencil in the common room at school so I had no remorse

The pencil is mightier than the sword!
Thanks for the pencil suggestion as it appears to have made everything ok. Now all I need is a magic pencil that can make me a multi-millionaire rock god and everything will be dandy! Thanks for the help. Grum. |
