Default I've broken something :-(

I was just playing around with the SG and making some very minor adjustments on the pickup heights. The neckup was sounding really nice and twangy and was making me smile .... next second it stopped working and now my smile is upside down

I can't get it to work - could I have broken it, or is it more likely a wire has come loose? *cries*

That'll be a loose wire, or possibly a short. If you feel up to taking the pickup out yourself it might be obvious what's gone, otherwise it's ten minutes' work for a tech.

That's a relief, thanks Beagle. The hubby fitted it so I might leave it to him to have a look to see if it is obvious. If not, I'll find a tech to sort it thanks.

I would just like to applaud the use of the word neckup instead of neck pickup.

*Applause*

...unwitting genius

...it doesn't make me feel any better though!

I would feel better if my husband was trying to fix my neckup rather than sleeping!

lol - he did mind!

I'm working on it though - nagging him to do it that is, rather than lash it up myself. Although I have a suspicion I may want to start taking it apart later - pointless as I can't solder any loose connection anyway

I've just had a quick look in the back of the guitar and the wires all seem to be where they should be. Does that mean that the wire in the pickup has probably come loose? Can I (well, he!) do something about that or is that more serious?

Cheers

How long have you been married, sort him out girl... As a quick and easy look see, unscrew the upselector and see if the wire is off there....

Is it just the neck or is it totally deaded?

Clare, it could well be the switch - they are notorius for messing about. Try flicking it back and forth a few times and use a little contact cleaner on the internals.
