Default Selling your music online via iTunes etc

There are some local lads in my area who have a fantastic little band and want to get there music online.

They want to sell there songs through the Digi Stores ( iTunes etc ), I know you can apply direct to iTunes, but there seems to be a lot of these agency's springing up all over the place that sort out your ISRC numbers, bios etc and then get your music in the main digi stores.

As anyone got any experience of these agency's and if so, what are the pitfalls ?

Any advice would be welcome

I can't help you with any experiences, but perhaps pop up to the listening lounge and check out the thread about a new kind of record label.

I've had good experiences with tunecore.com - no real pitfalls as far as I can tell, but obviously the onus is then firmly on the band to promote it and make sure people know where they can buy it.

Are there any setup costs or other hidden charges ?

There's an annual charge (around $10 IIRC) per album, but given that each track sold through iTunes UK generates 49p for the band it's peanuts.

Cheers Chris I will pass the info and weblink over to them.

Did you organise your own ISRC numbers for the tracks or did tunecore handle all that ?

Tunecore do all of that. You just need to upload artwork and audio.

CDBaby are supposed to be one of the best ways of getting your music to a wider audience.

CDBaby are one of the highest grossing independent online music sellers too (according to their latest sales figures)..

That's for small acts, not larger acts btw!
