Tim Cant at CM informed me that they have indeed discussed the idea of renewing the Muon contract at CM a few times and that there is interest internally, but the question is one of financing.
My assumption is that many of the CM special freebes are one-shot collaborations with developers to get both the developer and CM some attention. Like a "you scratch our back, we'll scratch yours!" deal. "Give us a unique free CM-branded version and we will give you a magazine article which promotes you" so to say. So... i don't know what to say about it other than readers should speak up and indicate what matters to them in coming months/years for Computer Music magazine. Without a compelling reason to finance a renewed contract, i suspect that CM will just continue to go after the less expensive or free "developer spotlights" like Nebula3CM (which the developers kindly updated) and SynthMakerCM (which i can not find any reference to on their site or forums). *sigh* |

yeah new kits for SR202 would be awesome. In fact, any updates would go down well :-)

Since the new CM Play is a Muon piece of software, we should rejoice!

...and it loads all your old DS404 and SR202 kits too.
Kind regards Dave |

i am indeed excited about this new development (pun intended)! Will the DS404 and SR202 programs sound the same as they did on their original software? Also, if i promise to buy the Muon Tau MKII and Tau Pro, will that help any on getting some updates to the other Muon developed stuff? :-) What kind of investment are we looking at here? i know few people have shown interest here at the forums, but i'm feeling that there's a lot more than the people here who would be pleased to see these classics be brought forward to modern times and this would add considerably to the magazine's cover disc. There are likely tons of people who read the mag and use the discs but don't visit the forums. The letter writing in the mag shows it. So, if it were a short term agreement to update for Vista (bugs??) and Intel Macs (code adjustments and recompile or develop as AU??)... what are we looking at as development costs? Would those of us who have expressed interest, and who are willing to fork out some development cost contributions be of any help to getting this done? Since CMplay has come along, i wonder if CM is interested in the classic tools being updated more now than they were previously. CMplay being able to handle SR-202 kits isn't exactly like replacing SR-202 and a lot of people love the low CPU usage of the CM Muon Plugs! (plus your GUI design is beautiful). So, i'm a bit confused that CMplay is coming along, without any further CM-101, SR-202, 303, 404, 505 etc updates. i see that it makes sense for all the sample data that they provide each issue and it will probably kick Paax's ass (i hate that thing, DS-404 kicks ass). cheers! -jace |

To be honest I think CM made the right decision to license CMplay rather than update the older plugins - the benefit is much greater to them to have something new going forward. Kind regards Dave |

maybe the right decision, except they still do articles on the old stuff, people like the tools (the synths) and a week of work to get fixed up? That's better than i thought. Especially at the cost.
i don't understand why they cannot afford it... maybe Tim Cant at CM can help us with discussions on how to do it WITH CM AND Muon AND the users who are interested. Would you be willing to discuss it with him? Cheers, -jace |

More than happy to discuss it, but I'm not optimistic for the chance of it actually happening
