Default What the developers have been working on

Hey,

We've had a large code deployment to the live site today. Some of the improvements are:

* Featured Profile added to the front page. This is editorially controlled, and links through. So if you think your profile is good enough for the front page, let us know about it!

* Product specification now has a show/hide button for your viewing pleasure.

* Related profiles have been added - a part of the gear functionality of the site. If you click ‘I own this’ on a product, your name will appear under ‘This product is owned by’ on the product page. Example here. So if, for example, you’re thinking of buying a new bit of gear, you can search for it in gearfinder, read the review, find out who owns it and then send them a message for a second opinion. Eventually you’ll be able to add your own gear to the database.

* ‘Your Comment’ box can be added to all articles. Editorially controlled. There’s an example here.

* We’ve now got pullquotes. Example article

* We’ve also got boxouts which can take links. This is useful for reviews and tutorials – see an example here.

* ‘Save to my links’ is up and running. If you like an article, click the save button and a link appears on your profile. You can also add external links via the link manager (although the manager is a work in progress).

*
A whole host of invisible stuff that only affects editors.

In addition to these, we’ve done a few bug fixes:

* Pagination works again.

* News features section doesn’t change text to title case

* Other stuff.

Let us know your thoughts. And for the forumites, we’ve requested that smilies get fixed.

Thanks Sporky, keep them coming people. Doesn't look like that in our Firefox 2, what version precisely are you using?

Either they've been very quick or something's unborked on my PC - it looks almost fine now. The bounding box around the specs is a little too short (vertically) - bottom edge going through the last line of text. But the overlap is gone.

Like avatars (still) lol

And removing hardware still doesn't work in the profiles.

In fact, wouldn't it be a better idea to post the indivudual things that are on the (music)radar for being fixed and then remove them when done?

Good idea, but too many little things need doing to do that - and fixes have to be deployed in blocks due to the way the site works...

As for avatars, these will come from your profile when the new profile section is up and running.
