Default about to buy it...

Hi, I have almost decided to tkae the plunge and go for a spider valve 212 combo. Does anyone want to try and stop me or support my decision before I actually do it?

I concur.

Don't do it as when you want to get rid of it, like all Line 6 gear, you'll loose a shed load of money as well. Look for the tell tale adverts on Ebay such as "I've had this for x weeks it's the most amazing amp ever, versatile etc etc. Unfortunately due to unfoseen circumstances, like {insert excuse / reason here} I need to sell it.

What the real translation should be is "I bought this Line 6 because it has Reinhold Bogners name on it and well I expected it to sound like a Bogner. I didn't really twig that there's probably a very good reason a real Bogner costs 4 times as much as a spider valve and that Bogner just sold his name for the cash.

I've tried desperately to get a half decent sounds out of it but despite the hundreds of patches and options, it just sounds like, well, every other line 6 amp. I'm now stuck with this toneless "tube" amp, although it does have a rather nice glow in the dark effect (some guitarists amp tubes apparently have a use called sound and not just a backlight so I've heard).

Please somebody buy it quick so I can go out a get a decent amp with the proceeds. I hate it so much, I'm even willing to take a large hit on it. So please, please, please Santa, all I want for Christmas is to get rid of this horrible Line 6 amp. I've been a very good boy/girl this year."

How's that then? Helped you make up your mind

In a sense yes, but at that same time it has sort of ruined my thought process. I have played one albeit for a short length of time and on quiet volumes. Musicradar gave it a good review as well. I have been amp shopping for weeks now and play a us strat however have not really found something that suits me. The marshall valve amp options were poor i felt. I really have no more than 600 to spend at the moment on an amp. i quite liked the soundcity 40c amp i tried but i feel like im banging my head against a brick wall.

Hmm. You're the only one that can really decide. If you liked the sound of it then it's a good amp, likewise if you don't like the sound of it then it's a bad amp. Fuck what anyone else says - use your ears.

I tried one when I was on the hunt recently and I personally thought it sounded aweful. As for what's in your budget, I was sort of looking in a similarish bracket (had a credit at Soundslive to use for that type of amount) and tried all the various things in that sort of range like the Spider Valve, various Marshalls, Vox CC, Hiwatt hi gain, Fender Twin but eventually settled on a old Marshall (JTM) so ended up buying used as Marshall stopped making the JTM years ago and used the credit to buy the most expensive hand wired 4x12 that Marshall do.

It's worth just typing into google "guitar amp", clicking on the tab at the top for shopping and then using the from and to £ options to see exactly what is around your price bracket. You might be suprised and also find amps you may not have even thought about. Then youtube some vids to get a rough idea and then get out there and test some more.

Just trying to stop you making what may be a very costly mistake if you buy a spider valve.

You'll struggle to get real balls out of a Strat. They are specialists in other areas I'm afraid.

Reviews are good but get yourself in front of the gear and decide what's best. A shockingly high number of people right internet "reviews" based on what others have said.
