Hi,
I just celebrated my 42nd birthday, and whilst at my parents house, my mother informed me that the guitar I was playing (my Father's), was bought the week I was born, and made by the brass musical instrument makers 'Hawk' (as in Boosey and Hawk). The guitar is a six string acoustic, and sounds quite bright with new strings... Does anyone have any idea of it's history or monetary value, or is it just another old guitar that is loved by 2 generations of guitarists? (I'm not selling, I just want to insure it). Boosey and Hawkes are primarily a sheet music publisher these days but were big builders of 'own brand' musical instruments of all kinds up until 2001, when their Watford factory closed down, though mainly brass and woodwind.
It's unlikely that your guitar has much intrinsic value although it would be nice to see a picture or two. There's a good chance it originated in Germany; possibly from Hofner, Hopf or any number of mass builders. Last edited by andrewrg : 04-01-2008 at 03:14 PM. |

can't put a picture on the net as the guitar was left up in Newcastle, and I'm back in London. I have since seen a Hawk SG on E-bay, which has opened another can of worms. Keep practicing JD |
