Default I have to have a Super Hard On!

Nope, not a porn spam thread...

I went to see the Ghost of a Thousand last night at the Thekla in Bristol, and they had the best live guitar tone I've ever heard. Even though they're a blinding screamo punk band, they have an awesome classic rock guitar sound. It was that perfect clean-but-distorted tone. You could hear every note in the chords, and it all sounded really musical.

The annoying thing is, they use almost the same gear as me. Jag Jago uses a JCM800 and I use a Jubilee, but we're both using Les Pauls. So I had to know how come he sounds twice as good as me.

And he uses a ZVex Super Hard On. So even though it was a free gig, it ended up costing me a hundred quid.

And now I'm thinking about getting a JCM800 as well.

I hate Jag!

And just when I was happy with my Blackstar HT-DIST!

Top band, almost as good as the Strawberry Blondes.

Jonny,

Ring A Remus Sounds in Gloster, they have had a JCM 800 combo in for ages. You could probably get it for 300 notes.

Bottom line- It takes motor skills and practice to develop fast clean playing but a brain to use it wisely and rock guitarists are still recovering from the 80's.
All in all sound is in the ear of the beer holder

Not my type of music either Sir Axe, but they're old buddies of mine (we were at college together). I still think they have a beeeyootiful live guitar tone, and good riffs too.

Might be tempted by that 800, too..... Damn GAS, I haven't had it for ages.
