Default Anyone on here also in a function band outside of your "normal" band ?

I'm pretty much a full time musician ( I pay the bills and live of my earnings from playing and teaching ).

Apart from session work and having my finger in the pie , called " The Rock Band ", 40% of my earnings come from functions ( Tie a yellow ribbon and Frank Sinatra ). I am never quite sure if I sold my soul to be performing Rat Pack numbers alongside Tom Robinsons 2-4-6-8 Traffic Jam, but it sure pays the bills and allows me to wear a snazzy shirt.

....and the women !!!!!!!!! WOW 60 year old MILF's in sequin dress's giving me the eye when I assume the Rock Pose for the solo in "Help ".

Who else enjoys such fame and fortune

Ah! the mature woman. The vocalist refers to them as"Gum suckers ".

Then you get the pub singer ......usually dragged off into a corner by his wife to get told off.

There there is Aunty Lil who has some suggestables with Uncle Ralf outside in the car park.

Blimey, you see it all in Function land

I've done a few function band gigs (ceilidh/rock/pop) but I'm not in one. I've also done loads of corporate stuff but with jazz bands, so I don't really see it as a function band per se. It's just the music I would normally play except no-one is listening - which is what happens anyway.

I'm in a normal pub & club band but we also do a lot of wedding work and special parties etc. It's the same music, same band and same gear. We just put on suits and triple the price

A function band is my "normal" band. I don't have enough time for anything else. In fact, at the moment, work even keeps me from doing that. We dress up and charge good money. The guests come for a good time, and any fights are conducted out in the carpark.

My normal band virtually goes out and plays functions under different band names as it is. They're all legal and declared earnings though because the "cash in hand for the band" road leads to a not very nice place. If you book "Canada Drive", or "Take Cover" for a gig, the chances are you will be getting most of the "Turquoise Noise" band, but sometimes musos will be swapping between bass and guitar, and we'll share the singing a bit more for cover tunes (standard broad mixture of stuff/ stock wedding set list + DJ).

Theoretically I could be if things would move a bit faster!

Technically, I am in four bands....

1) Pink Floyd Tribute/Cover band - awaiting resurrection with new bass player, hopefully in a coupla weeks
2) Three piece jam band - really just for open mics and having a laugh - constantly requiring drummers!
3) Classic Rock covers and originals band, been on hold whilst people are at uni, due for resurrection this summer
4) A strange 80's pop/rock 5 piece outfit, that could quite easily become a function band I think

I am constantly getting involved in things where everyone else fecks about though! The pop band/fucntion thing is the most promising so far, but it's taken ages to get the set together. The Floyd thing is cool, but not a full time option with other commitments, like my shop, but was sounding good last time we played.... the classic rock outfit is fun, and will be good in the summer, if we pull our finger out andget some stuff organised V soon... again, kinda looking for a new, and better, drummer though!!! Got a few optins lined up though, so things are looking up!
