 Oh, guitar, right... I guess Kirk Hammett for the money. Or Slash just to be so cool. Hendrix would've been good except for the being dead bit. It's a toughy...
I'm gonna say Frank Zappa, mainly coz you said 'musician' rather than specifically a dedicated guitarist, though he was unique in that too.

slash is a good choice i guess. i wud go for either slash kirk hammett tom delonge or page. if i had to narrow it to two id go delonge or hammett i no two totally different players but both fantastic nonetheless
