Smile sound city amps.

any thoughts on this range? i tried the 400 pound 40 watt version of this combo today and really loved the distortion on it however was left gutted that the amp only has one eq strip on it. i also tried a 900 pound mesa boogie combo which was amazing if not a little pricy

I played a Strat through on of those Sound City 2x12 40w amps just a few days ago! I thought for the money it was pretty damn good! Though I was more impressed with the clean sound....I think had I had a buckered guitar to try the dirty channel might have seemed more appealing, however I was trying out an Olympic White American Series Strat with rosewood board (2007 version) and I was so so tempted to pull the trigger and get it...even though I really cant afford it. GAS is addictive and dangerous!!

Bottom line- It takes motor skills and practice to develop fast clean playing but a brain to use it wisely and rock guitarists are still recovering from the 80's.

I wouldnt be too concerned by 1 EQ...its not perfect, but it definately workable.

I used to use one at school waaaaay back when..........louder than a loud thing from well you know the score.............absolutely no use wha so ever unless you were playing an aricraft hangar...................the new ones are chinese arent they ? which seems an excellent reason not to buy one.

I think the 50w head is a better option. The speakers seem to give up a bit when you play loud with a dirty sound. Plus, it's £50 cheaper than the 40w combo.
