When I first switch on I get a pulsating buzz from what sounds like the fan (as volume level makes no difference). This normally after it's been on for a while quietens down to a slight buzzing drone. Is this likely to be the fan bearings? Can they be lubricated or would you need to switch them out.

The noise the fan makes is like a duck going quaaacccck, quaaacccck, quuuaaaaaaaacccccckkkkkk !! It then stops making that noise as it warms up, settling down to a drone, as you say. I noticed exactly the same on an MG100HDFX (head). I don't know whether it is an inherent fault in the fan design, or whether it is just a characteristic of the model of fan that Marshall chose to fit. It can be annoying but once I start playing, my ears adjust to the sound of the guitar and block the sound from the fan. Please let me know when you've found a cure for this. Thanks in anticipation !!! ![]() Last edited by rocktron : 03-11-2008 at 10:21 PM. |

May be just the way it's designed, as mine does the same.

I had an MG250DFX with an intermittently mild noise from the fan. I stopped noticing it after a while (like I've stopped noticing the fan on my laptop when it come & goes). Because I've had 3 ;laptops whose fans did the same thing, I didn't think it was anything unusual, but if your fan makes a different noise, it'll be time to change the fan.
TBH it's a guitar amp so you'll either drown the noise out with your playing or won't hear it if your playing with headphones.

Worth cleaning the fan out with a vacuum cleaner....the one on my AVT was full of fluff and assorted shite and sounded much quieter once it was cleaned.

Looks like replacing the fan is the only option. Is this a relatively easy DIY job? If not any views on how much a professional replacement would cost?
Looking to sell it soon as I want a valve amp, but I don't like selling things that don't work properly. If it's costly I'll sell it cheap, but be clear about the problem. |

I wouldnt worry about it, since it isnt amped at higher volumes its ging to be drowned anyway.
