Peavey Classic 30 or Delta Blues.

There's one on t'bay at the minute for £235, and I don't think you'll get better for a solid, giggable, all-valve blues and rock amp under £300.

The Delta Blues is a great amp but you might do better posting this under the section entitled AMPS ...

Don't know if you'd be interested in a modelling amp, but in the under £300 price bracket I couldn't find anything better than the Vox Valvetronix AD series.

It depends what you want out of an amp really though, seeing as at the time of purchase I had no effects pedals all the built in effects were great for me. As I tend to play lots of different types of music having a few amp models to play around with was very useful too.

I've no idea about the technology, but I think this amp is part valve part solid state or something like that. I just make a lot of noise with them, I've no idea what's happening inside the amp!

Still I think it's amazing value for money, I can nail pretty much any sound I want and I can even lower the wattage for bedroom practice. Definately worth a look, my AD50VT cost £180 - and I was looking on a budget of £250 - £300.

heard a tech 21 trademark in action the other day at a blues gig with a ton of pedals in front. HIGHLY impressed with it, very touch sensitive (guitarist only used a RV-5 pedal most of the time) and a great gritty rock tone ie zz top/SRV

As an ex-owner of both the smaller Tech21 and a Peavey Delta Blues (= a Classic 30 with different speaker) I'd say both were excellent value and great middle of the road working amps.

I sold my DB because the shared EQ irritated me - but since then I've ended up with a single channel amp and make changes from the pedalboard, so would have been as well keeping it. That whole Peavey Classic range is solidly made and they turn up used often so are great s/h buys

Go 2nd hand and get a Classic 30 or Delta Blues...or a Laney VC30 or LC 30. All great amps for the money. New I dont think theres much to compete with those for 300 squids.

Bottom line- It takes motor skills and practice to develop fast clean playing but a brain to use it wisely and rock guitarists are still recovering from the 80's.

There's an American built Classic 30 on the bay at the minute I was thinking I might take a punt on...this is the older model - any reason why this is better or worse than a new one?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=019

...bit concerned about how exposed those valves are

...also is this model better or worse for the rattly valve issue these amps have? The photo makes it look like the valves aren't very close to the speaker...?
