I doubt that MR.com will make this topic sticky, as it is in league with the EVIL CORPORATE MUSIC INDUSTRY so I'll just bump this topic back to the top.

Samplers:

Highlife R1... What a cool sampler. Sorry not to post a link

SFZ: A simple, effective soundfont player

Synths:

ConcreteFX Rock is my favourite free synth
http://www.concretefx.com/

Noisie is not as complex but it's also rather cool
http://www.odosynths.com/vst.htm

Polybit and Minimogue should be easy to find with Google. Polybit has hardly any knob labels but I still program sounds in it. It took time to figure out but it's fatness was rewarding.

Green Oak Crystal 2 should also be easy to Google. It's quite popular but I've never been fond of it.

Effects:

Most of the ones I use have been covered above, but I'll mention my favourites anyway...

Klanglabs' Overdubber and Backman

Classic Compressor and Classic Auto-Filter

Freeverbtoo... I prefer it to my other reverbs but I'm not sure why. It could be the sound or the GUI...

CamelCrusher by Camel Audio. I like the distortion, especially for adding a little grit to bass.

Madshifta... I wouldn't rely on this for pitch-shifting but it can make some cool noises and I sometimes use the dry/wet balance to create soft off-kilter harmonies.

Tried out some of the plugins you guys linked... The highlight for me was dBlue Glitch - it blew me away! I could fiddle with it on a repetitive loop all day and not get bored! The interface is brilliant. I'd imagine, aside from it's use in glitchy music production, that it'd be great for DJ's using Ableton Live.

When I posted my list I'd accidentally missed a page, so I have plenty more to look at. This thread should definitely be a sticky. Thanks everyone!

Hope you enjoy - I'm sure much of this has been covered on this thread, but you might find something new

There's a comments section so please post more suggestions underneath the article - that way non-forumites will benefit from your knowledge of the subject and vice versa. Let's get the ball rolling.

Anyway - that's it from me; I'm off to download some of these VSTs myself...

We may have to keep bumping this to keep it from being deleted, seeing as admin won't make it a sticky!

There's some here that I have never seen before:

http://kunz.corrupt.ch/?Products:VST_TAL-BassLine

A Roland SH101 emulation
A Juno 60 emulation - you can also just download the chorus as a separate plug.

Other stuff too.
