Default PC Upgrade

Hi

I am currently using the following spec. Athlon 3000+ with 1gig memory to run Sonar 7. Would I see much difference in performance if I upgraded to duel core Athlon 4800?

Appreciate your advice.

What OS you using?

First thing I'd do is get more RAM.

Ayup.

And rather than swap to another Athlon you might as well take the plunge and go Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad - Intel seem to have a huge performance margin at the mo.

2nd that.

I had a AMD 64bit 3000 and went to an AMD Dual 64bit @ 3000 and it made fuck-all difference.

I'd check to see if you need to flash the BIOS as well with a jump from single 3000 to dual core 4800. Plus the 3000 may be socket 939 and the 4800 AM2.

Another Gig of RAM might make more difference than you'd imagine.
