Default St Lucia

Anyone been to St Lucia? It's the possible honeymoon destination!

Any reviews, recommendations, or suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers

Not exactly an original choice, but as you say, plenty of people go or want to go there.

Yes. If you want to learn Scuba, sit on a beach and go tio reaggae street parties off your tits on strong weed it comes highly reccomended. Since I was there it has become a bit HIV ravaged, but that should not be a worry for a newly wed. People are friendly but there are a lot of hustlers about as well, and dope smoking, guinnes slurping taxi drivers are not to everyone's taste. The scuba/snorkelling is spectacular.

When I was there on a family holiday I pulled a local lass and the hotel would not let her stay, so I upped sticks and slept in a shanty town for 5 days. The rain would come through the gaps in the shack wall when it rained but it was fun. The shower was a big drum full of water that heated in the sun.

Accoustic reaggae jams, a pretty young Caribean doll and all the weed, rum and barbecued chicken a man could want.

My uncle lived there and ran a resort there for years, before moving to Antigua and running a Resort there.

It's nice, but I would look at St. Maarten (another of my uncles lives there and owns a resort - it's fucking WELL nice) and Antigua (quiet, but lovely - The Jolly Harbour Resort is the place my uncle used to run - before moving back to the UK last year - it's really peaceful and very, very nice).

I'd also look at Jamaica...Another of my uncle's and then my sister sold time share for various different resorts in Ocho Rios - which is a lovely place...But can get very busy.

Jamiaca is fine if you stay in resort, but is a lot more dangerous than the smaller islands. I'd be very careful of going there if I wanted to mix with locals rather than be on a beach.

Hardly - Kingston - Yes. Mo' Bay - Maybe, but Ocho Rios and Negril are relaxed and the locals couldn't be nicer.

My sister lived out there on her own for 6 years - obviously she made friends, but she said she felt safer over there than she does living back here.

I've wandered round Ocho Rios a night (they have some awesome clubs and two AWESOME strip clubs...Actually they're more like live sex shows - As long as you stay on the main streets and don't divert off down dodgy side alleys and use your common sense (as you would in ANY town or city), you're absolutely fine. Oh, just watch out for the cars, those people have NO road rules.

Edit: Clare - if you do end up choosing Jamaica, by some chance, I'll find out where my sister's fella works now, I think he's bar manager at Sandals - He's a fucking legend and would go out of his way to make your stay better than it already is.

Cheers very much for all that, Jon.

And thanks, Mags, I knew you'd have a sex-related story to share
