Default GT - how to get the best out of it

I was just wondering how you guys and girls go about (or suggest going about) getting the best out of an issue of GT magazine?

Do you pick out the lessons you're interested in and go through them - quickly, or in depth? Do you have a go at everything you feel is within you ability? Go through the lessons and then apply them, create your own stuff etc?

I feel I need to dedicate some time to each issue, but don't really know how best to go about this. Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Cheers

Clare, you are so beyond the point where you need to ask such questions. Think about where your playing is, and then look at what could help you achieve your goals. IMHO you have now reached the stage where it is time tio explore self expression, and assess what you wish to do musically. Once that has been done then it would be good to get some technical focus. But at the moment I believe that yiou would be doing yourself a favour by playing out a bit. Open mic nights, a band or even some busking would be really good for you at the moment. You have nailed the basics and I suspect until you know where you want to go musically, performace experience is about the most avaluable thing you can get,.

Mags - that does sound like very good advice! I don't know where I want to go musically, and I do have a slight inclination to play out with other people (try to ignore the innuendo ). I have a couple of people I could contact, but something is holding me back...not really sure what! Although one of the said people I've never met before, so am slightly apprehensive (as it's a bloke!). We arranged to meet up for a drink and chat to see if we wanted to try to play together/put a band together, but circumstances got in the way and I've been avoiding re-scheduling! I need to just get off my arse and arrange to get together with my fellow guitarists!!

The rest of you -

Use backing tracks... ignore original music on top and do your own thing.

clare - have you thought about giving IGF a go (although I know you're saving to get wed . . . ) it was the group learning and performance that finally rid me of my own reservations about taking the next step. You'd love the Mojo class

I know it'd be a good idea, but time and money are probaably both unavailable this year. I'll check it out, maybe I should give it a go regardless. Otherwise I'll spend forever saying, 'next year'. Thanks, Tim.

+1.

Get in a band is the best advice you could get as you are a decent player, no question.

And be careful of meeting horrible boys on your tod!
