Default iPOD classic volume capping

Is anyone else experiencing this issue with there new iPOD classics ?

There don't appear to be any fix, and resetting the volume etc does not work as claimed. I borrowed one before I spent nearly £159 out and along with many other users ( and christ knows how many forum debates throughout Europe ). The one I am using is so quiet it is unusable. I checked friends iPODs and there are they are all the same....except for one which was bought in New York. It's easily around 12db louder then the Euro model.

All because the French have a 100 db sound cap, the rest of Europe suffer

So my £159 will be staying with me or being spent on a Zen or such like.

I've never had any of the ipods I've owned on max volume especially since I don't use the bundled headphones with it! If you have some decent isolating headphones then you will not need to have the ipod as loud unless you already have hearing issues!

I'd be worried about your hearing TBH. I have an iPod touch (which presumably has the same volume limits, if it's an EU-imposed thing) and I generally use it at slightly above half volume, with the standard Apple headphones.

My hearing is not 100% due to over 20 years of gigging. But most people I know who are having issues with the iPOD dont play music that loud.

I generally use around 60% volume on other MP3 players without a problem, but when the classic is on full chat it is very quiet. I have checked it against other iPODs and also went into my local Apple dealer today, and there one's were the same.

In all honestly, I'd get your hearing checked. Even with the EU volume limit, with a decent pair of 'phones I only ever get near the upper echelons of my iPod touch's volume control if I'm listening to something very mellow with a low overall master level (e.g. early Dylan, Leonard Cohen) in a noisy environment such as when I'm the train...

I just found out that only some of the iPOD touch's are capped ( and they can be disabled with gopod), it's mainly the Classic and Nano that are buggered.

My hearing is not 100% , but its not bad. I seem to have the same aural sensitivity as the guys in the local studio. There is a lot of noise ( excuse the pun ) being made about this issue, even on Apples own forums.

My wife has 100% perfect hearing ( trust me, it;s a pain at times ) and she dont like loud music, but admits the classic is a bit low on db's .......dunno

Perhaps I am living in another dimension, it would explain the fact that I now like Marmite..................

Have you tried using as set of more sensitive headphones?

I really fancy some CX300s for use with my 2nd Gen Nano but am rather skint! They are supposed to block out background noise so you don't need to have it up as loud.

Money is a bit low on the ground to pay out from more headphones, so I am in the same boat as you.

Perhaps we can chip in and buy a pair and have one earpeice each
